Internet safety is an ever-changing issue both parents and schools are challenged with. Students are being exposed to inappropriate material, dangerous individuals and bullying by peers on a regular basis if they are online. It is crucial for parents and schools to work together to keep our kids safe and to teach them how to use the internet responsibly.
During keyboarding class in the 6th grade both the teacher and counselor present information on cyberbullying. In seventh grade, during computer applications, the teacher and counselor work with students on internet safety.
Please take time to discuss household rules and expectations about computer usage, social networking sites, cell phone use and internet safety. Monitoring your child while he/she is on the computer is ideal but not always realistic. Make sure they understand that you will be checking up on them and that you expect appropriate behavior while "plugged in".
